April 14, 2026Question for those who do a lot of coins? The PNG file comes with a black square around it how do you guys get rid of that so alignment can be done.
User A:
Make a circle that goes around the exact border of the outline of the coin. Highlight the coin and circle, then click tools and scroll down to apply mask. There you have it
User B:
If you have Lightburn add a circle around it and then apply mask. Go up to select arrow then right click the image and apply mask. Then right click again and flatten the mask.
User C:
Make a circle the size you want. Set it as a tool layer. Place the design over the tool layer. Select both and right click. Select apply mask and that will eliminate the excess outside the circle. For lightburn that is.
User D:
I generally just crop a circle. I use a Mac, so it’ll be different on Windows. I just open in Preview. Select Mark up. Use the drop down for the Selection Tool and choose Elliptical. Draw a circle around the coin picture. Then Command+K crops it.
For polishing the finished coins, I recommend checking out this guide on Magnetic Tumbler vs Dremel: Polishing Brass Coins Efficiently.
